This listing is for a lovely Icelandic Ewe Raw Wool Fleece from the spring shearing of 2025. This fleece is the result of 12 months’ growth from April 2024 - April 2025. Our sheep graze all summer and fall on a prairie pasture in west-central Minnesota, and eat hay through the winter months.
This fleece comes from our ewe Dahlia who is a ‘badgerface’ and has an unusual fleece that’s cream with large black patches. Her fleece has a staple length of 8 inches. Icelandic wool is dual-coated, and can be handspun into lopi style yarn, or combed to spin the tog and thel separately. This fleece is very soft and is ideal for handspinning. This fleece will yield a light gray roving or yarn as the white and black are carded together.
1 pound, 12 oz. of skirted wool with some vegetable matter (VM) and very few second cuts.
Value-added packaging is included as the fleece is mailed in a handsewn cotton pillowcase-style bag, perfect for breathable storage.
To unpackage fleece, carefully dump bag contents onto a large table. Slowly unroll fleece, cut side down and locks up. To see how we skirt and roll up our fleece , see our YouTube video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEiUzqmd7Ys
